The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) issued a notification announcing that the enforcement date of the USB Type-C interface requirements for certain electronic products has been extended to 1st May 2026.

SASO required that starting from 1st January 2026, mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers, speakers, keyboards, computer cursors (mouse), portable navigation systems, portable speakers and wireless routers imported to Saudi Arabia must comply with SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2023 and SASO IEC 62680-1-3:2023.
- SASO now requires that starting from 1st May 2026, the above-mentioned products must comply with the USB Type-C interface requirements specified in the above standards. Otherwise, a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) shall not be issued.
- For any Certificate of Conformity issued before 1st May 2026 that does not comply with the USB Type-C requirements, applications for the corresponding Shipment Certificate (SC) shall not be approved.
- SASO will randomly withdraw and review files through the SABER platform in order to verify whether Conformity Assessment Bodies have issued certificates in compliance with the relevant requirements.
