[Eswatini] Strengthened Control of the Type Approval Market-A Risk for Non-Approved Equipment

From April 13th, type approval is mandatory for the importation of telecommunications equipment.

As of April 13, ESCCOM will require a valid type approval certificate before the importation and marketing of electronic communications equipment in Eswatini.

Surveillance and control devices will be deployed at the various customs posts and points of entry in the country to verify the conformity of incoming equipment.

Stakeholders who fail to comply with this provision expose themselves to risks:

  • Confiscation of unapproved equipment being imported at customs posts.
  • Payment of a fine or two years in prison in accordance with the regulations.
