On February 10, 2026, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) published guidelines regarding the verification of rated capacity for portable sealed secondary lithium cells and batteries.
Manufacturers must comply with the test method specified in Clause 7.3.1 of IS 16047 (Part 3):2018 / IEC 61960-3:2017.
Key points are as follows:
- For New Certificate Applications and Renewals: Mandatory testing requirements under the IS 16047 standard will take effect on May 1, 2027.
- Existing Certificates: Manufacturers must ensure compliance with the above requirements and submit the verification report by April 30, 2027, or by the final registration expiry date, whichever is later.
