The National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) of Papua New Guinea has officially launched the Type Approval Online System, which is now a mandatory platform for the registration, certification, and importation of ICT equipment.
All ICT products—such as mobile phones, radios, broadcasting equipment, drones, and smart devices—must obtain type approval before being sold or used in PNG. This ensures product safety, compliance with standards, and protection of public networks and users.
All importers, ICT dealers, and overseas agents are required to register on the system and use the platform to submit applications, apply for import permits, and complete payments. The platform is integrated with PNG Customs for ICT product clearance at entry points.
In addition, NICTA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PNG Customs to jointly enforce regulations and strengthen compliance control over ICT equipment entering PNG.
