[India]India BIS has released updated guidelines for synchronous testing.

Following the guidelines for synchronous testing issued in December 2022 and June 2023, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) released updated guidelines on January 9, 2024, converting the synchronous testing pilot program into a permanent initiative, effective immediately upon publication. Other key points include:

  • The new guidelines will allow synchronous testing of all products within the scope of the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). Synchronous testing remains voluntary, and manufacturers can choose to follow either the synchronous testing process or the current verification process.
  • All components requiring BIS approval can undergo synchronous testing at any BIS-approved laboratory. The test report number and laboratory name must be displayed on the test reports of post-processed components or final products.
  • BIS will approve component registration applications sequentially. Once final products are registered based on synchronous testing, manufacturers need to apply for changes to BIS and present the certificate number of the components in the report.
  • Manufacturers opting for the synchronous testing procedure must provide an additional undertaking during the testing and verification stages.
