Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones (SUBTEL) in Chile announced on July 24, 2023 plans for transitioning networks from 2G to more modern networks, which will allow for more efficient energy consumption. It will gradually shut down its 2G network starting from H2 2024, although it will cease marketing services over the 2G network from August this year. SUBTEL requested that companies who plan to stop using 2G networks provide a plan outlining the transition process so that 2G network shut downs in any region of Chile do not leave users without connectivity.
