The Ministry of Telecom and Information Technology (MTIT) in Yemen has resumed the issuance of type approvals after a suspension that lasted several months. According to official confirmation , the first approvals for pending applications have been issued and are awaiting the final signature by the minister. Moreover, the MTIT has launched an online submission system for new applications, which is available exclusively to locally registered companies (Local Representatives) in Yemen. This new tool is expected to facilitate the handling of type approval applications in the future. Given the backlog of applications since April 2022 and the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan, which is expected to start around March 22nd, 2023, we recommend our clients to begin submitting new type approval applications for Yemen as soon as possible.
The new type approvals are the result of the recently implemented final type approval system in Yemen. Based on these new type approvals, there are some important changes and updates to note:
- Type approvals from Yemen will now have a validity of 2 years.
- New type approvals will include a QR-code to enable the authority and the custom authority in Yemen to verify the authenticity of the type approvals in the future.
- The unique country of origin is still required for type approvals. If a device has multiple countries of origin, it will require multiple type approvals, one for each country of origin.
