[Mexico] Mexico: New Conformity Assessment Procedure for Radio/Telecom

The Federal Telecommunications Institute, IFETEL, has issued a new set of Conformity Assessment Procedures, which will come into effect on February 25th, 2021.

  1. The new procedure will impacts all products, equipment, devices, apparatus and infrastructure for telecommunications or broadcasting that can be connected to a network of telecommunications and/or make use of radio spectrum. So the mandatory product scopes have been enlarged.
  2. Certificate holder (importer) requires to apply for both certificates of conformity (issued by the certification bodies) and IFT homologation certificate.
  3. The CoC and IFETEL Certificates (include test report) issued to certificate holder will be non-transferable. This mean other local importer will need to apply and get their own CoC and IFETEL certificates.
  4. e-filing will be available. Right now we have to go in person to file each and every application.
  5. Four certification schemes will be available:
  1. Certification of single batch/lot
  2. Certification of single model of product, with surveillance
  3. Certification of family of products, with surveillance
  4. Certification of telecom or radio broadcasting product, with surveillance
    1. Follow-up inspections will be mandatory for 5% – 15% of the certificates issued and valid in the previous year, selected at random.
