Further to the Update of 27th May 2020 regarding the new Mexican Conformity Assessment Procedure (PEC), as of 25th February 2021, changes will be introduced to the Type Approval process for radio devices subject to current Mexican national standards and where there is a local testing procedure (such as NOM-208-SCFI-2016 and NOM-221-SCFI-2017 part 2).
- RF Certificates of Conformity (CoC) and RF test reports can no longer be transferred. This means that each Mexican importer must obtain their own RF test report, RF CoC and IFT Approval certificate.
- All current RF CoCs and RF test reports that have been issued to a third party as the local representative will need to be obtained again, in the name of each importer. Any existing IFT Approval certificates may continue to be used for sales purposes, however RF CoC’s in the name of each importer will be needed for importing into the country.
- Holders of RF CoC’s must now also obtain the corresponding IFT Approval certificate. If not, both certificates will be cancelled.
- All Approvals where no testing was involved will remain valid and are not affected by this change.
The new PEC only impacts radio products where there is a local testing procedure applicable (for example, NOM-208 covering 2.4GHz, 902-928 MHz and 5725 – 5850MHz or NOM-221 part 2 covering WWAN bands).
Whereas RF devices containing for example 13.56 MHz only or 415 MHz only do not require local testing, therefore are not impacted by this change. There is no impact to the Safety Approval process.
