Current practice:
At beginning of 5G NR implementation, NBTC only require testing on NSA (non-Stand Alone) mode. NSA is configuration which combine usage of both LTE and 5G NR (EN-DC). NBTC do not require testing on SA (Stand Alone) mode. For SA mode, it will operate 5G NR independently.
New practice:
As there are some network operators in Thailand announced that they are ready to operate with SA mode for 5G NR. NBTC has now required test report to include SA mode for Thailand bands. 5G NR bands are as follows.
5G NR Band for Thailand: n1, n3, n5, n8, n28, n40, n41, n258
Effective date: 1st November, 2020
For type approval certificate that will be issued after the effective date, we will require to submit test report under SA mode for Thailand band (only require for SA band that product support – if product only support NSA, we do not require to submit test report for SA mode).
Official regulation:
There is no official regulation announced at the moment. This change has been approved based on NBTC internal documents which are not sharable. NBTC plan to display this info onto their website, soon.
